Keep up-to-date with the Union's activity;
Work and Progress - our new monthly newsletter,

Student Meetings - be part of the decision making, bi-termly.

We don't work alone in our campaigns; we work with other students' unions plus organisations like Stop the War coalition, Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament and Association of University Teachers as well as being part of the National Union of Students (NUS), National Postgraduate Committee (NPC) and the University of London Students' Union (ULU),. Our campaigns are not all traditional lobbying and demonstrating - we hold social events and activities promoting and providing awareness of the issues.

The campaigning role of the Students' Union is fundamental to what it does and to effectively campaign we need as many people as possible.

Campaigns 2003/4

Last year we secured space and plans for an on-campus gym - which will be under construction Summer 2005, after much discussion with college committees on the advantages to an on-site gym we have managed to reclaim the second gym room to develop our facilities. Plus we have been working to achieve a larger, more flexible Multi-faith Prayer room for our number of religious groups; achieved with great support from the Islamic society.

College Campaigns

One of our priority campaigns this year is to see opening hours of the of the Rutherford Information Services Building (RISB) and its library services extended.

We are working to provide all students at Goldsmiths College with free time, most universities across the country table Wednesday as free from scheduled classes, meaning you can spend time studying, developing personal skills, working or being involved with a club or society. For more information on Freedom for Wednesday Afternoons contact Dave Charlesworth, Student Activities and finance Officer.

Anti-Racism Campaign

One of the most pressing issues in Britain, both nationally and locally is the rise of racism and, in particular, Islamophobia.

Halls rents have raised at an above-inflation level; in 2003 we secured a Halls Bursary of £30,000 for students who are finding it difficult to pay the high rents. Alike the Gym campaign, this shows that a strong, well-supported campaign can get results.

We are also working on an education funding campaign.

All demonstrations meet at the main entrance to the Goldsmiths building; for demonstrations check the notice boards and website, advance notice will be given with the time and date.
